Dr Chris Barber
Current position on board of trustees: Scientific Advisory Board Member
Duration: 2011 - present
Affiliation/job title/status: Chief Executive Officer, Lhasa Limited
Chris joined Lhasa Limited as Director of Science in 2011 and was appointed to the position of CEO in June 2017.
Prior to this, Chris acquired 20 years of experience as a medicinal chemist at Pfizer where he led teams that identified prototype clinical candidates across a range of diseases tackling enzymes, receptors and ion channels with a range of modalities from small molecules to peptoids and antibody conjugates.
Moving from a ‘user’ to a ‘provider’ of in silico solutions gives Chris some insight into how, when and why Lhasa software is be used. This, together with regular conversations with members inspires him to ensure that Lhasa software provides scientifically rigorous, trusted and transparent information in a way that supports efficient decision-making.
While Director of Science, Chris provided the strategic leadership and direction for Lhasa’s scientific output across the entire product suite – it was an exciting time as Lhasa introduced its first machine-learning model through Sarah Nexus, its first potency predictions for skin sensitisation in Derek Nexus, its first hybrid statistical-expert model in Meteor Nexus and Lhasa's most recent addition to the ICH M7 support tools, Mirabilis, that supports the estimation of loss (purge) of impurities during synthesis.
Now as CEO, Chris leads Lhasa Limited so that it may continue to meet the needs of its members by combining robust science and intuitive software with the dedicated support of over 150 staff.
