Dr. Anax Oliveira, Director of Science
Name: Dr. Anax Oliveira
Job title: Director of Science
Hello, my name is Anax. I joined Lhasa in September 2020 as Head of Toxicology within the Science Team, in December 2021 I was promoted to Director of Science.
After completing my PhD in Toxicology at the University of São Paulo, in Brazil, I worked as a Toxicologist at Aché Laboratories where I had my first contact with Lhasa as a member. From here I started to use Lhasa’s software solutions in the safety assessment of pharmaceutical impurities. Then, I had the opportunity to move to Kimberly-Clark and be part of their Global Product Safety team as a Principal Toxicologist for the Latin American markets. This job brought me the chance to apply toxicological risk assessment to different types of products, gain exposure to other markets/regulations and understand the dynamics of a personal care industry, which was incredibly beneficial to my career. During the last few years I’ve also been a representative of the industry in multidisciplinary groups of trade associations and governmental bodies focused on toxicological risk assessment and non-animal methods for safety assessment. From 2019 to 2021, I sat as an Industry representative at the Brazilian Council for the Control of Animal Experimentation (Concea), which is a regulatory body associated to the Ministry of Science and Technology.
By changing my perspective from a user to a provider of in silico solutions, I think my background from the industry is valuable to my role at Lhasa, since I’m responsible for developing strategies for the next solutions that Lhasa can provide to support decision making in the safety assessment. The emerging of lots of new technologies and the shift of paradigm from an observational to a predictive Toxicology, makes these very exciting times to be part of an organisation like Lhasa.
Outside of work I like spending time with friends and family, usually surrounded by good food - either prepared by me or at restaurants that I enjoy discovering. I like being close to the nature and exploring its wonderfulness, but since I need to be in the city, I have a big collection of plants that take a lot of my time and attention.
