Dr. Sam Webb, Research Scientist
Name: Dr. Sam Webb
Job Title: Research Scientist
My name is Sam and I graduated with a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Surrey in 2011. I quickly joined Lhasa Limited as a Research Associate employed by the University of Surrey. This collaboration involved working on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership funded by the Technology Strategy Board and Lhasa Limited. I continued this research project as a PhD in Computing (at the University of Surrey) investigating interpretable machine learning for (Q)SAR modelling and knowledge mining and graduated in 2015.
Becoming a researcher at Lhasa has provided me with the opportunity to work with talented people on challenging and interesting tasks, while not having to wear a lab coat. I am continuing to work in the Research Group using machine learning and various cheminformatic techniques to solve some of the scientific challenges we currently face. At work I will typically be arguing working with varying combinations of data, Java, R, Eclipse and KNIME. You will be able to see some of the successful results on the website library.
Outside of work you may find me running around Hyde Park, rowing (the stationary kind) and then undoing the exercise by sampling European lager or Australian/New Zealand wines.
