Dr. Rachel Hemingway, Principal Scientist

Name: Dr. Rachel Hemingway
Job Title: Principal Scientist
My name is Rachel and I joined Lhasa in February 2015 as a scientist. I obtained an MChem in Molecular Medicine and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Hull, graduating in 2012. I then spent 2 and a half years working as a research scientist for a chemical manufacturer before joining Lhasa Limited.
I joined Lhasa because I felt the role was challenging and could offer me a range of new skills within a sector I feel passionate about. I share Lhasa’s ethos and find motivation in the fact that our work is always driven towards improvement.
My role allows me to utilise skills from my PhD whilst still offering a lot of new challenges. Being a knowledge scientist, I get to be involved in the development of predictive scientific software systems and I feel like I am part of an organisation leading the way in this area. I work with an amazing team of people who I am able to learn so much from, due in no small part to the collaborative and supportive environment that is encouraged at Lhasa. Working at Lhasa gives me the opportunity to be involved in conferences and projects which may ultimately be published in journals, fulfilling a lot of my own ambitions and encouraging me to strive to do my best. The role of knowledge scientist requires a number of different skills and as such, I also receive a lot of training and opportunities to go on courses. Overall my role allows me to continually learn new skills in my chosen area keeping me challenged and motivated.
Outside of Lhasa I enjoy keeping active by going to the gym (as often as I can talk myself into it). I enjoy socialising with friends and going out for meals but often find myself on the sofa with a glass of wine and a film which makes me just as happy.
