Lhasa Limited Welcomes Leeds Lord Mayor to its Monthly Fundraising Cake Club.

Date: 15 May 2018

Lord Mayor Visit

Lhasa Limited, is an educational charity which creates state-of-the-art in silico prediction and database systems for use in metabolism, toxicology and related sciences.

Today Lhasa had the honour of welcoming Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Jane Dowson to its offices in Leeds, where Lhasa employees proudly introduced the Lord Mayor to their monthly fundraising cake club.

Every month, employees from Lhasa take to baking tasty treats ready to be exchanged for donations by hungry colleagues during cake club.  Each cake club welcomes a new recipient charity, this month honouring the Lord Mayors ‘Just One Day’ Charity Appeal for Candlelighters.

As a charitable organisation, Lhasa’s employees enjoy an altruistic culture and were delighted to participate in the Lord Mayor’s, ‘Just One Day’ fundraising event, a one-day annual fundraising event that is dedicated to the Lord Mayors chosen charity.

During her year in office, Lord Mayor, Councillor Dowson chose to support Leeds based charity Candlelighters, who support families facing children’s cancer across the entire region of Yorkshire. All funds raised as part of the appeal this year will be donated to Candlelighters, and more specifically, the Candlelighters cottage, which will provide four families with overnight accommodation, 365 days a year, whilst their children are being treated at Leeds Children’s Hospital, a great need amongst those families who are affected.

In addition to a delicious selection of cakes, Lhasa employees enjoyed an introductory talk from the Mayor, followed by an engaging speech from Candlelighters Corporate Fundraiser, Brian Curran, who is set to later return to Lhasa for a cheque presentation and handover of donations.

Coming in at first place, the home made walnut and cinnamon swirl cake with cream cheese and maple syrup frosting topped the voting charts and its baker was awarded with the very prestigious ‘Best Cake’ certificate presented by the Lord Mayor herself.

Although staff at Lhasa may be feeling all full up today, they will return next month with a selection of home baked cakes and goodies, supporting yet another charity.
