What is the role?
To design, implement and enhance software products within the Life Sciences domain. The Senior Software Developer will work within a Software Delivery team to create and maintain Lhasa’s software products.
As a team member and experienced full stack developer, the Senior Software Developer will help to coach and mentor other members of the Software Development function, contribute to continuous improvement and outcomes at Lhasa and with opportunity to lead a software development team within SD.

Your responsibilities, skills and experience
Software Development
- Design, implement, test and support software applications and components for use within the Life Sciences domain, including both desktop and web and cloud based systems
- Maintain a high standard of code and documentation
- Ensure that the software development lifecycle is followed in accordance with best practices, standards, and policies
- Write and maintain unit tests, and performance metrics for automatic testing to ensure the quality of the development
- Assist the team with functional and automated testing as required
- Peer review other team members’ work
- Produce estimates for development work
- Work with other SMEs including Principal Developers/Testers within and across delivery teams to fully understand the problem space and to meet demands
- Identify future state opportunities and keep up to date with advances in technology, best industry practices, approaches, and tools in testing. Utilising these as appropriate to maximize Software Delivery efficiency and effectiveness
- Develop and mentor Software Delivery team members
- Have a strong focus on learning
- Improve quality and efficiency within SD and Delivery Teams, as part of our continuous improvements programme
- Actively contribute to the Software Development community of practice
Leading
- Lead by example and provide a positive role model for the team including championing Lhasa values
- Contribute to best practices observed both within Lhasa and externally
- Guide software development with quality mindset
- Contribute to the development and iterations of standards and guidance

- Proactively identify problem areas within Software Delivery, and help to identify and implement appropriate corrective actions
- Develop individuals through regular 1-2-1 meetings, performance reviews, coaching, mentoring (in collaboration with other people leaders and technical leads) *
- Line manage, including: personal development; assisting with recruitment; training; retention; discipline; change management and absence reporting *
- Help increase engagement and motivation, and skill levels within Software Delivery and build strong working relationships with key stakeholders *
- Contribute to high-performance culture within SD and Delivery Teams in collaboration with other key stakeholders (Product Owners, Delivery Managers, Technical/Scientific leads) *
- Assist the Head of Software Development with strategic and operational goals and outcomes *
Communication
- Communicate clearly and effectively within delivery teams the wider business
- Ensure key stakeholders are kept up to date with progress and potential blockers
- Promote the visibility of Lhasa within professional networks
- Cascade relevant leadership briefings to the team, ensuring they are kept up to date with processes, procedures and events *
- Escalate line management issues to P&C and / or the Head of Software Development as appropriate *
- Update the Head of Software Development on the performance of individuals within the team *
Other
- Actively participate in delivery activities and team meetings to enable outcomes
- Provide second tier support for products
- Proactively maintain and improve own professional development
- Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities which may be reasonably expected of the role as necessary to achieve the outcomes of the Software Development Function and company goals
