Laura Gibson, Principal Scientist
Name: Laura Gibson
Job Title: Principal Scientist
At Lhasa I take a lead role on the development of the knowledge within Derek Nexus. Since starting here in 2004 I have gained experience working on a number of endpoints including carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, skin sensitisation, teratogenicity and hERG channel inhibition. Nowadays, most of my time is spent peer reviewing knowledge work, mentoring new starters on the project team and project leading/coordinating, rather than doing the knowledge implementation work myself!
I joined Lhasa in 2004 after graduating in Chemistry and having gained experience working in the field of Scientific Information. I spent a couple of years working as an intellectual property analyst, before joining AstraZeneca’s environmental toxicity division and then moved up to Leeds to join Lhasa. I enjoy the variation in the work I do and that I have the opportunity to develop new skills – I am currently building on my interests in pharmacokinetics.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time outdoors – cycling, walking or just pottering around the garden. I am also a keen music fan and can often be found out at gigs.
